Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Diaz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Johnson! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson throws out a loose jab but Diaz uses good head movement to avoid it. Diaz misses with a wild combination.
Diaz misses with a straight right. Diaz swings for the body but Johnson moves out of range.
A jab from Diaz does it's job there. Johnson uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Diaz. Diaz slips a jab from Johnson. Diaz uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Johnson has time to react. Johnson walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head. Diaz fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Diaz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Johnson throws out the jab. Diaz lands with a cross. Diaz connects with a jab. Diaz throws a shot to the body.
Nice straight punches there by Diaz. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Diaz. Diaz throws a body punch but Johnson moves out of range. Diaz throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diaz's guard. Johnson stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Diaz has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Johnson manages to get his head free but now Diaz has transitioned to an armbar! Johnson grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Diaz! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
