PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buddy Brandon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Desmond Zertiis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brandon kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is All Summer Long. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Desmond Zertiis!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Darius Henderson and Chris Dean.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Zertiis scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Brandon trying to hold on to Zertiis's head to control him but Zertiis postures up.
Zertiis looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Brandon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Zertiis leaves Brandon with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Brandon controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Brandon wants to control from the top but Zertiis keeps moving.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Brandon gets to his feet. Zertiis looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Brandon goes for a double leg but Zertiis avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Zertiis continues to drive forward.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Zertiis lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Brandon looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

Zertiis gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Brandon regains guard.

Zertiis is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Brandon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Zertiis manages to get himself to full guard.

Our spies down at at Finch Farm inform us that Zertiis has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

The ref stands the fighters back up. Buddy Brandon wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Brandon shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Zertiis counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Buddy Brandon. That's going to take a lot out of him.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Brandon throws out a loose jab but Zertiis uses good head movement to avoid it.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Brandon shoots in looking for a takedown. Zertiis tries to sprawl out of it but Brandon keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Zertiis manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Zertiis goes for a double leg but Brandon avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Brandon continues to drive forward.

Zertiis has hold of one of Brandon's legs. Brandon is fighting the takedown attempt but Zertiis gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Brandon had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Zertiis defends it easily.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Zertiis's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Zertiis has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Brandon can't keep his opponent in guard - Zertiis advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Brandon looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Zertiis has Brandon pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Zertiis pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Brandon tumbling to the mat - Zertiis dives into Brandon's guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Desmond Zertiis showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Brandon pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Buddy Brandon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brandon throws a series of punches but Zertiis moves out of range.

Zertiis throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Brandon.

enabling Zertiis to counter with a crisp jab.
Brandon tries to close the distance and clinch but Zertiis swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Zertiis is stalling here. Brandon is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Zertiis seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Brandon has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
