The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beck closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Akeroyd is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Beck asserts his dominance and retains side control.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

That was a close round but I would say that Salvatore Beck will probably get the nod.

and Akeroyd counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Beck wants to stand and escape but Akeroyd is having none of it.

Beck fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Akeroyd avoids it really well and circles away.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bryan Akeroyd hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Beck goes for a double leg but Akeroyd avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Akeroyd continues to drive forward.

Akeroyd escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Beck changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Akeroyd tries to avoid it but Beck manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Akeroyd to the ground. Akeroyd escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

and Akeroyd counters with a nice double leg into side control. Beck won't be happy with that.

Beck is looking to regain half guard here but Akeroyd keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Akeroyd leaves Beck with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
