PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Genghis Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iqbal Al Mamood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Khan comes to the cage accompanied by Mongol. Al Mamood is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mamute Pequenino. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Genghis Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 29 - 19 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Iqbal Al Mamood!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Hugh Johnson and Francis DeMontford.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Khan lunges at Al Mamood with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Al Mamood's hand.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Al Mamood has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Khan misses with a hook

and Al Mamood decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Khan's guard.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Khan escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Al Mamood gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Al Mamood tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Al Mamood has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Al Mamood misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Khan manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Genghis Khan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Genghis Khan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Khan will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Al Mamood up against the cage.

Al Mamood uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Khan.
Genghis Khan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Khan moves away from the strike by Al Mamood.
A slow jab from Khan misses its intended target.

and Al Mamood counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Khan wants to control but Al Mamood is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Iqbal Al Mamood has got the better of the ground game so far.
Al Mamood not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Khan is staying active underneath Al Mamood, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Khan regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Al Mamood.

Well, if Khan is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Genghis Khan.
Al Mamood moves away from the strike by Khan.
Khan missing with a left hand there. Al Mamood was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Khan bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
A decent looking cross lands there for Khan.

and Al Mamood holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Al Mamood goes for a body shot but it's blocked.

Khan escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed right hand from Al Mamood misses the target.

Khan misses with a wild body shot.
Al Mamood misses with an uppercut
and Khan counters with a nice uppercut.


Al Mamood is rocked!
Khan shakes his hands by his side, trying to relax. Al Mamood takes his eyes off the ball for a moment - Khan sees the opportunity and cracks him with a massive hook! Al Mamood bends double and collapses on top of himself - he's out! The crowd are going absolutely nuts! Wow, what a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Genghis Khan!
Genghis Khan looked relieved post fight as he said the following; 'I am not your father!'.
