PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Diego Brandao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lithe Tarzan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lithe Tarzan told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Diego Brandao! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Lithe Tarzan! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Aleksandr Martynov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! The fighters circle momentarily. Brandao darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
It looks like Lithe Tarzan has been cut. Tarzan moves in looking to clinch but Brandao pushes him off. Tarzan tries to clinch and Brandao counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Tarzan is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Brandao defends well. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Tarzan throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Brandao passes easily into side control. Nice work. Brandao lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Tarzan down.
You can see the frustration on Tarzan's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Brandao scores with punches from side control. Tarzan tries to bench press Brandao off him but Brandao keeps the position. Tarzan manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Tarzan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Tarzan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Brandao is working away from the top position though. Tarzan blocking the ground and pound attempt from Brandao.
That's one minute gone in the round. Brandao thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Tarzan manages to get to full guard.
Brandao throws a big elbow that misses. Brandao wants to control from the top but Tarzan keeps moving. Brandao forces his way into half guard. Tarzan looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Brandao has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Tarzan is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Brandao working the ground and pound effectively.
Brandao has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Tarzan's face.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tarzan is bucking up trying to escape but Brandao cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Brandao working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Tarzan looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Brandao! Submission of the night perhaps?
