PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Earl Vespa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Dux (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Earl Vespa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Dux!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vespa fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Vespa closes the distance and clinches.
Dux looking to throw knees to the head but Vespa is blocking nicely.
Vespa stalling the fight.
Dux tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Vespa just stands there and leans against the cage.
Dux tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Vespa tries to pull guard but Dux holds him up against the cage and eventually Vespa drops back down to his feet.
Dux throws an elbow that misses.
Vespa avoiding damage.
Dux on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Vespa gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Dux trying to hold on to Vespa's head to control him but Vespa postures up.
Vespa stops Dux from getting back to his feet.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Vespa gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

Vespa moves into the clinch successfully.

Vespa gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Dux is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Vespa has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Dux is working an open guard so Vespa takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Dux misses with a takedown

and Vespa counters with a single leg into guard. Dux didn't expect that.
Earl Vespa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Frank Dux.

Vespa forces his way into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Dux is pressing down on Vespa's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Vespa tries to free his leg and advance position but Dux is retaining full guard.
Vespa is breathing heavily.
Vespa slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Dux wants to get back to his feet but Vespa is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Vespa decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Dux fails to land with a series of punches.
Dux lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Dux doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Vespa counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Dux has his takedown stuffed

and Vespa counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Vespa working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Dux's head.
Dux looking to control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dux wants to get back to his feet but Vespa is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Vespa slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Dux is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Vespa controls from within his opponent's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Vespa thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Earl Vespa dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Vespa tries to clinch there but Dux circles away.
Dux tries to land a body kick

and Vespa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Dux's guard.
Dux will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Vespa trying to control the position from guard on top but Dux is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Dux wants to sweep but no luck.
Vespa distracts Dux with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dux is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Vespa trying to control the position from guard on top but Dux is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dux misses with a takedown attempt

and Vespa counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Vespa passes into side control, despite Dux's attempt to control the position.
Dux is letting Vespa control him for a moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vespa looks up at the clock and then as Dux takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Vespa smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Dux tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Vespa wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Vespa working away.

Vespa decides to stand up, so the ref orders Dux to his feet.
Dux keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Dux throws a nice head kick!
Vespa shoots in but no luck this time.
Vespa avoids the head kick by Dux.
Dux tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Vespa gets the takedown into side control.
Dux is trying to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Vespa is staying tight to Dux's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Dux can't do much from the bottom here.

Dux wants to control the position but that's not easy when your opponent is in side control! Vespa seems to be going for some sort of submission here. Hard to say what - oh, it's a Brabo choke! He's got it! Dux is tapping! Wow, great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Brabo Choke). Earl Vespa!
