Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Jorge (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ricardo Mendes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jorge comes to the cage accompanied by Back in black. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 23 - 1, fighting out of London, James Jorge!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Ricardo Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Paul Tew and James Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jorge dives in and scores a takedown into Mendes's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Mendes has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Jorge has passed into side control.
Mendes is looking for a sweep.
Mendes is trying to control Jorge's posture but Jorge avoids it.
Mendes is not content to let Jorge control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mendes tries to bench press Jorge off him but Jorge keeps the position.
Jorge looks up at the clock and then as Mendes takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Jorge smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Mendes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jorge wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mendes managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Jorge.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mendes manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Jorge throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mendes works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Mendes trying to keep a closed guard but Jorge is proving a slippery customer.

Jorge postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Mendes looks a forlorn figure.

Mendes wants to stand back up but Jorge manages to pass into side control.
Mendes tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Jorge wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Mendes is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Mendes closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jorge's guard.

Mendes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Jorge can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
James Jorge overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jorge tries to free his leg and advance position but Mendes is retaining full guard.

Jorge is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Mendes can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Jorge is landing with some decent strikes but Mendes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Mendes is looking to get to half guard.

Jorge takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Jorge cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Jorge can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mendes is looking to escape.

Mendes works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Mendes slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Jorge scores with a one two! Mendes had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Jorge wants to sweep here but Mendes controlling him for the moment.

Mendes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jorge looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jorge looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jorge!

Mendes is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Jorge off and has taken his back!
You can see the frustration on Jorge's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
