PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Clay Hurst (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and First One (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). First One will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Clay Hurst!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, First One!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Johanna Lukiainen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
One tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Hurst manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Hurst gets caught napping as One dives in and scores a takedown. Hurst manages to retain guard.
Hurst keeping moving, preventing One from controlling successfully.
One missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hurst tries to land a sweep but no joy.
One being controlled here momentarily.
Hurst looking to control.

OK we're going to have a standup here. First One hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

One shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Hurst manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
One would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
One preventing the sweep.

That's one minute gone in the round.
One throwing strikes but missing.
One wants to stand but Hurst is controlling his posture from full guard.
One is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hurst managing to control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

One gets caught flat footed, as Hurst shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hurst gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hurst can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as One controls the pace.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. First One wasn't active enough on the ground.

One shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than One was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hurst tries to buck One off but One is having none of it.
One tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Hurst manages to get back to half guard.
One prevents Hurst from improving his position.
Hurst is breathing heavily.
One looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hurst wants to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with One in particular looking to stall.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Hurst gets full guard.
One throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Hurst wants to hit a switch here but One passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Hurst there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
One sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
A nice elbow there by One.
You get the feeling that Hurst really doesn't like being in this position too much.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

First One dominated that round.

One shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hurst is trying to defend but One finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Hurst keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Hurst is trying to get back to full guard.

Hurst looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hurst wants to control but One is keeping busy and won't allow it.
One trying to control from half guard but Hurst is working away.
Hurst is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of One's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take One's back!
First One has got the better of the ground game so far.

I would not like to be One right now.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hurst controlling well, preventing One from escaping the position.
Hurst is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at One. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Hurst is persistently looking for the submission but One is defending it well.
One trying to control but not successfully.

One has the hand control, trying to stop the rear naked choke.
Hurst tries to get the hooks in deep but One pushed the leg off.
One breaks Hurst's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Hurst is trying to control the position but One postures up.
Hurst throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
One wants to control from the top but Hurst keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

One closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Hurst looking for a sweep but One has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Hurst can't escape the position.
One trying to control but Hurst is having none of it.
One prevents Hurst from getting the reversal.
Hurst regains half guard.
One frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

One with a couple of short strikes.
Hurst is looking to get to half guard.
Hurst tries to hold on but One postures up.
One tries to control but Hurst wriggling away.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hurst is looking to get to half guard.
Hurst wants to control but One is having none of it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

One takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

One takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
You can see the frustration on Hurst's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Hurst is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
One working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Hurst sneaks back into half guard.

Hurst is trying to control but can't.
Hurst on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
One takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
One trying to mount his opponent but Hurst defends it.
Hurst is not content to let One control the position.
Hurst wants to get back to full guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by First One.

One gets the takedown into side control.

One lands a few punches from side control.
An elbow from One crashes against the mat.
One is looking to take a break and control but Hurst is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
One lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Hurst is trying to improve his position.
Hurst taking a bit of punishment here - One scoring with strikes.
Hurst is looking to regain half guard here but One keeps moving and retains side control.
One trying to control the position but Hurst is working away.
Hurst is looking to reverse the position.

One thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

First One comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well One has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
