PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Milford Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Michael Bluth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Milford Black!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George Michael Bluth!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Black feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Black stopping the sweep attempt from Bluth.

Black decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Bluth fails in his attempt to clinch.

Black scores a takedown into full mount!
Black looking to control but Bluth is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Bluth is looking to get to half guard.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Black cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Bluth is rocked!
Bluth is wriggling around trying to escape.
Bluth is still in real trouble! Can Black finish him?
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Black is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Bluth has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Black mounts Bluth! Really nice guard pass there!

That's one minute gone in the round.

Black get's back to his feet.
Bluth seems to have recovered his senses.

Black feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bluth wants to sweep here but Black controlling him for the moment.

Bluth working for a triangle but Black defends it easily.
Bluth throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Bluth looks gassed!

Bluth looking for a sweep. Not yet Bluth, not yet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Black looks to clinch
and Bluth counters with a stiff right hand.
Bluth has his takedown stuffed

and Black counters with a takedown into side control.
Bluth looking for a sweep but Black has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Black controlling from the full mount.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bluth should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Bluth is controlling an arm, preventing Black from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Bluth tries to reverse the position but Black maintains control.

Black stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Bluth throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Black looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Black lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Black slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Black has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Black stands up from Bluth's guard - Black perhaps looking for a knockout.
Black finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Black takes the fight into the clinch.
Bluth is pressed up against the cage. Black has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Bluth down to the mat. Bluth avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Black shoots in and bounces Bluth off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Black stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bluth swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Black won't allow Bluth to sweep him here.
Bluth being controlled here, momentarily.

Black stands and steps away. Bluth gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Bluth fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Black.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Bluth wants to control but Black postures up.
Black wants to control but Bluth is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Milford Black dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Black closes this distance looking for a takedown but Bluth circles away.
Black closes the distance and clinches up with Bluth, looking for a takedown. Black pushes Bluth against the cage but Bluth circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bluth uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Black.
Black keeps the fight on the outside.
Black needs to keep his hands up - Bluth had a free shot at his head there.
Black fails in his attempt to clinch.
Bluth stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Milford Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bluth drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Black is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Bluth must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Bluth controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Black tries to keep at a distance but Bluth has taken the fight into the clinch.
Nice body punch from Bluth - that landed with a thud.
Bluth takes an elbow to the temple.
Bluth has Black pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Black manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Black takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Black slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Bluth is trying to control the position but Black postures up.
Black won't allow Bluth to sweep him here.

Bluth keeping busy on the bottom but Black has passed one foot through into half guard.
Milford Black overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Black controlling the action here.
Black wants to control but Bluth is keeping him busy.
Bluth is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Black takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Black stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Bluth avoids the head kick by Black.

Black drives through with a takedown into guard.

Black is looking to advance position but Bluth won't allow it.
Black is trying to control the action in half guard but Bluth is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bluth is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Black is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Bluth wants to improve his position but Black is controlling well.
Black is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Black is thwarting Bluth's attempts to control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Black tries for a takedown but Bluth circles away easily

and Bluth counters with a nice double leg into side control. Black won't be happy with that.
Black is trying to improve his position.
Bluth is looking to take a break and control but Black is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Black tries to buck Bluth off but Bluth is having none of it.

Bluth decides to take the fight back to the feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Bluth lands a nice shot that snaps Black's head back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

George Michael Bluth showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Bluth looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bluth tries to clinch there but Black circles away.
Black dodges the punch combination from Bluth.
Black gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Bluth counters with a single leg into guard. Black didn't expect that.
Bluth wants to pass the guard but Black is keeping the position.
Bluth wanted to stand there but Black had control of the position.
Black keeping full guard, as Bluth tries to pass.
Black will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Bluth trying to control but Black is working from the bottom.
Bluth working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Black's head.
Bluth trying to control the position from guard on top but Black is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Bluth trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Black fails to land the takedown.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Bluth with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Black takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Bluth manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Black trying to stall but Bluth improves his position.
Black gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Bluth.
Black goes for a takedown attempt but Bluth pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Milford Black. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bluth shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Bluth is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Black trying to control but Bluth postures up.

Black makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Black has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Bluth finds it's way round the side to connect with Black's head.

Black gets a takedown into half guard.
Bluth landing small, sideways elbows.
Black wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bluth keeps working.
Bluth wants to control but Black is keeping busy.

Black is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Bluth is staying active underneath Black, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Black is working for a kimura but Bluth is defending it quite comfortably.
Black controlling the action here.
Black's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Bluth wants to control but Black is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Bluth is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Black lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Bluth throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Black is working for a kimura but Bluth is defending it quite comfortably.
Black works his way into full mount!
Bluth is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Black trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Black avoids the attempt from Bluth to control.
Bluth is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Black controlling his opponent.
Bluth tries to lock up and control but Black gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
George Michael Bluth comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bluth has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
