Penn's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I need a Doctor by Eminem. Alex Smith will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice straight punches there by Penn. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Penn.
Good standup being displayed there by Penn as he connects with a hook.

Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Smith to the mat! Smith manages to get full guard.
Penn looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Penn postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Penn works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Smith wants to control but Penn is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Penn has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Penn uses his free foot to push down on Smith's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Smith.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Penn fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Penn postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Smith looks a forlorn figure.
Penn is landing with some decent strikes but Smith is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Penn pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Penn lands a couple of good shots and Smith has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Smith is rocked!
Penn really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Smith.
Smith is still in real trouble! Can Penn finish him?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Penn is landing big shots and Smith is squirming looking to escape! He can't escape though and the ref jumps in to end the fight!
