PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Dave Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikolai Peterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gomes comes to the cage accompanied by Roadhouse Blues. Peterson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Blind Eye Halo. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Gomes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nikolai Peterson !
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Peterson is looking to clinch.
Gomes shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Gomes throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Peterson closes the distance and pushes Gomes back into the cage.
Peterson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Gomes lands a right hand that snaps the head of Peterson backwards.
Peterson has a couple of punches blocked by Gomes.
Gomes working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Gomes lands a hook that snaps the head of Peterson backwards.
Gomes keeps control of Peterson as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

A head kick misses from Gomes.
Gomes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Gomes misses with an uppercut. Peterson saw that one coming.

and Gomes counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Peterson !

Peterson tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Gomes presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Gomes is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Peterson is surviving well by controlling Gomes's body position as best he can.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Peterson holds on and takes a little breather.
Peterson wants to stand and escape but Gomes is having none of it.

Our spies down at at Reign in Blood inform us that Peterson has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?

Peterson throws a sloppy head kick and Gomes moves out of range easily.

Gomes fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Peterson throws out a powerful jab.
Gomes takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Peterson checks a leg kick.

Gomes throws a front kick aimed at Peterson 's knee but Peterson avoids it well.
Peterson throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Good work by Peterson as he checks the leg kick.
Peterson cracks Gomes with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Peterson has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Gomes.

Gomes throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Peterson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Gomes is in Peterson 's guard.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gomes had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Peterson defends it easily.

Gomes working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Peterson doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Peterson manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Gomes escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Peterson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
