Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Hunter Forbes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bas Konijn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Bas Konijn was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hunter Forbes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bas Konijn! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Ben Watson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Konijn fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Forbes, pushing him back against the cage. Forbes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Konijn tries to clinch but Forbes moves out of range. Forbes swats away the attempt to clinch by Konijn. Konijn scores with a nice body kick.
Konijn moves into range and clinches up with Forbes. Konijn breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Konijn fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Forbes to the ground. Konijn is now in Forbes's guard. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Konijn trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Konijn trying to control but Forbes is working from the bottom. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Konijn drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Forbes dives on top into guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Forbes missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Forbes looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Konijn is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Konijn looking for a sweep. Not yet Konijn, not yet. Konijn being controlled here, momentarily. Konijn working a defensive guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Hunter Forbes just wasn't active enough. Konijn looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Konijn is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Forbes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Konijn. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Konijn wants to stand but Forbes has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Forbes gets full guard. Konijn trying to control but Forbes is working from the bottom. Forbes wants to sweep here but Konijn controlling him for the moment. Forbes keeping moving, preventing Konijn from controlling successfully. Forbes is pulling down on Konijn's head. It's preventing any offense from Konijn, at least for the moment.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Bas Konijn hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Forbes gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Konijn to score an easy takedown into full guard. Konijn throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Konijn preventing the sweep. Konijn stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Forbes swivels though and keeps the full guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bas Konijn dominated that round. That's time! Back to the action!
Forbes gets caught napping as Konijn dives in and scores a takedown. Forbes manages to retain guard. Konijn pushing down on Forbes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Forbes has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Konijn is working away from the top position though. Konijn is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Forbes! Konijn throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Forbes because Konijn loaded up on that one.
That's one minute gone in the round. Forbes is squirming around, avoiding Konijn's attempts to control the action. Konijn controlling from mount. Konijn wants to control the pace but Forbes is squirming around nicely. Konijn fails to advance to Forbes's back. Konijn prevents Forbes from getting the reversal.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Konijn goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Forbes is on top in guard.
Konijn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Konijn manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Forbes manages to get himself to full guard.
Forbes is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bas Konijn. Konijn darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Forbes really is a fat lump.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Konijn is looking to stall here but Forbes recovers full guard. Konijn wants to control from the top but Forbes keeps moving. Forbes preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Konijn being controlled here momentarily. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Konijn with a flurry of punches that miss. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Konijn moves into the clinch. Forbes has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ. Forbes has had enough of the clinch but Konijn keeps him there for the moment. Konijn content to slow the pace in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Bas Konijn showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Konijn moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
It looks like Hunter Forbes has been cut. Konijn throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Forbes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Konijn is in Forbes's guard. Konijn trying to control the position from guard on top but Forbes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Konijn not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Konijn would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Bas Konijn has got the better of the ground game so far.

Bas Konijn has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Konijn is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Forbes's half guard. Forbes gets full guard. Forbes wants to stand up but Konijn is controlling him. Konijn wanted to stand there but Forbes had control of the position. Konijn trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Forbes manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Forbes stopping the sweep attempt from Konijn. Forbes postures up.
Forbes looking to sit in guard and control but Konijn gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Konijn trying to control the position from guard on top but Forbes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Konijn is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bas Konijn. Konijn throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Forbes on the side of the head. Forbes keeps the fight on the outside. Konijn will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Forbes blocks a head kick by Konijn.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Konijn shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Konijn takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Konijn gets to his feet - back to striking we go! Forbes tries to clinch up but Konijn circles away and keeps his distance. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Konijn shoots in and bounces Forbes off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Hunter Forbes has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Bas Konijn is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Konijn stops Forbes from standing up.
And that's the end of the fight! Bas Konijn comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Konijn has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
