Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Kenneth Grip! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Chris Ripper! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Alexandre Firmino and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Grip fails with a takedown attempt. Ripper gets a clinch. Ripper decides to pull guard. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Ripper is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Grip is aware though and is defending well. Ripper has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Grip can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Ripper looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Ripper keeping moving, preventing Grip from controlling successfully. Ripper is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Grip drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Grip jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Ripper working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Grip doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Grip manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ripper is pulling down on Grip's head. It's preventing any offense from Grip, at least for the moment. Grip wants to control from the top but Ripper keeps moving. Ripper working for submissions but it's allowed Grip to get to half guard.
Ripper is defending against the submission attempts here by Grip.
Ripper looking for submissions off his back. Grip is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ripper doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Grip.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ripper has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grip is working away from the top position though. Grip trying to control from half guard but Ripper is working away. Ripper is defending against the submission attempts here by Grip.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Grip is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Ripper sees it coming and defends easily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Grip stops Ripper from getting back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Grip is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Ripper actively working from the bottom here. Grip prevents Ripper from improving his position. Ripper looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Grip is looking for a kimura here.
Grip wants to free his trapped foot but Ripper is holding on for dear life with his legs. Grip seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Ripper is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
