Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Josh Cruz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and BJ Penncil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). BJ Penncil is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penncil shoots in for a double leg but Cruz sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Penncil shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cruz pinned against the cage. Cruz gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Penncil bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Cruz is pushing Penncil's head away, looking to escape. Penncil manages to hold on to the position though.
Penncil advances to mount.
Cruz is desperately trying to improve his position but Penncil has a good base and remains in mount.
Cruz regains half guard.

Penncil is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cruz is looking for a sweep. Penncil is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Cruz is refusing to be controlled, as Penncil sits in half guard.
Penncil passes to side control.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Cruz is looking for a sweep.

Cruz knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Penncil on the ground.
Penncil wants to control but Cruz is keeping him busy.

Cruz tries to buck Penncil off but Penncil is having none of it.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Penncil thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cruz could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Penncil can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Cruz is looking to escape.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Cruz tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Penncil forces the positional change into back control.

Penncil has managed to slip his arm under Cruz's chin. This could be all over... yep, Cruz is tapping out! Submission win for Penncil.
