PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Grind (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timo Kahuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Grind!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Timo Kahuna!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Santiago Holmes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kahuna loads up on a big right hand but Grind slips the punch.
A swing and a miss from Kahuna.
Grind gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Kahuna.
Grind slips under a jab from Kahuna.
Kahuna lands with a right hand.
We've been hearing reports that Grind has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Kahuna throws a right hand that misses
and Grind counters with a two punch combo.
Kahuna connects with a body shot that sends Grind's belly button to the back.
Kahuna throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Grind sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Kahuna scores with a sloppy right hand. Grind should have avoided that one.

The strikes coming from Grind are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Kahuna bucks up and tries to throw Grind off but instead Grind has got his back!
Grind has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Kahuna is trying to get back to his feet but Grind has full control of the position and if anything, Kahuna has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Grind is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Grind gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Grind gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Grind apologises and we restart here on the feet.
Kahuna throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Kahuna misses with a hook. Grind ducked under it nicely.

Grind slips a straight right by Kahuna.
Grind gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Kahuna misses with a straight left.

Kahuna throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Kahuna swings widly with a right hand

and Grind counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Kahuna can do anything to dispel that myth.
Grind prevents Kahuna from standing back up.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Grind thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Kahuna wants to get back to his feet.
Kahuna keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kahuna is not content to let Grind control the position.
Grind takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

A close round but Timo Kahuna will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Kahuna throws a hook to the side of Grind's head but Grind sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Kahuna pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Grind back to the cage. Kahuna follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

and Grind counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Grind.

Kahuna's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Grind stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kahuna swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Grind displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Kahuna throws out the jab.
Kahuna connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

and Grind counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Kahuna throws the left hand but Grind avoids the punch easily.
Grind avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

A telegraphed right hand from Kahuna misses the target.

and Grind holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Kahuna manages to break the clinch.
Kahuna misses with a hook.
Grind staying out of range there.
Grind shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Grind takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Timo Kahuna showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Kahuna throws out a loose jab but Grind uses good head movement to avoid it.
Kahuna throws a right hand that Grind ducks under and follows up with a left that Grind also avoids with ease.

and Grind counters with a single leg into guard. Kahuna didn't expect that.
Kahuna is looking to stand up but Grind isn't so interested in that idea.
Grind working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Grind postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Grind keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kahuna's head.
Grind loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Grind is standing up over Kahuna. Kahuna looks to escape but Grind dives into side control.

Grind decides to stand back up. Grind steps back and let's Kahuna get back to his feet.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Johnny Grind.
I think Kahuna has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
