PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Eli Armis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pinkynho Romeiro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Armis comes to the cage accompanied by Mortal Kombat Theme. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eli Armis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
28 - 40 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Pinkynho Romeiro! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Armis moves out of range of the leg kick from Romeiro. Armis closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Romeiro to the mat! Romeiro manages to get full guard. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Armis pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Romeiro is keeping the position for now. Armis seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Armis looking to pass the guard. Armis is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Armis seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Romeiro for as long as he can get away with. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Eli Armis. Armis shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Armis showed some decent athleticism there. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Armis in particular looking to stall. Armis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Romeiro sees it coming and defends easily. Armis wants to pass to mount but Romeiro is defending the position. Armis is taking a breather. Romeiro says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Armis passes to side control. Armis is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Romeiro is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Armis has hold of Romeiro's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Romeiro seems comfortable defending it but Armis has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Romeiro is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Romeiro is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Armis couldn't care less - he's delighted!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Eli Armis! During a confident post fight interview, Eli Armis thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
