Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jake Souza! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
24 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Rocky Scalante! The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Scalante throws a left and a right that both miss
and Souza counters with a slapping leg kick. Rocky Scalante seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Scalante looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Scalante misses with a series of wild punches.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Scalante has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Scalante throws out a powerful jab.
It looks like Jake Souza has been cut. Scalante fails to land with a series of punches.

Scalante throws a head kick that misses. Souza tries to clinch up but Scalante circles away and keeps his distance. Souza steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Scalante. That one must have hurt. Scalante keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Souza misses with a wild body shot. Souza fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Scalante shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Souza seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Souza can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Scalante controls the pace. Souza looking for a guillotine here but Scalante defends easily.
Souza has his feet on Scalante's thighs here. He's pushed Scalante off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Scalante screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
