Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Craig Shilo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Harry Callahan! The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Dmitry Maklakov and Viktor Lagutenko.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Shilo uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. A slapping leg kick lands for Callahan.
Shilo swings and misses with a shot to the body and Callahan counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Callahan. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Shilo has control of Callahan's left arm, preventing Callahan from doing any damage. Callahan looking to pass the guard. Callahan trying to control but Shilo is working from the bottom. Callahan throwing strikes but missing. Callahan looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Callahan has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Shilo looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Shilo can't keep his opponent in guard - Callahan advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Shilo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Callahan pulls his head out easily. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Shilo is staying active underneath Callahan, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Callahan is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Shilo sees it coming and defends easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Shilo is not content to let Callahan control the position. Callahan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. Shilo is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Callahan pulls his head out easily. Shilo trying to hold on to Callahan's head to control him but Callahan postures up.
Callahan is looking to take a break and control but Shilo is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Shilo taking some punishment here, with Callahan in his half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Callahan wants to pass the guard but Shilo is defending well. Shilo tries to roll over but Callahan keeps him under control. Callahan looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Callahan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Shilo is trying to maintain the position but Callahan is very close to passing his half guard. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Callahan connects with a nice short shot to Shilo's temple. Shilo looking for submissions off his back. Shilo is not content to let Callahan control the position. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Callahan sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Shilo defending well though. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Harry Callahan dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Callahan scores with a nice right hand.
Shilo scores with a crisp jab that stopped Callahan in his tracks. Callahan is looking to chop away at Shilo's legs. Shilo blocks a low kick nicely. Callahan takes a swing at Shilo's ribcage but misses. Good exchange - Callahan coming out on top. A solid leg kick lands there for Shilo.
Callahan throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Shilo throws the left hand but Callahan avoids the punch easily. We've been told by Shilo's head coaches at Warrior MMA and Fitness that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Harry Callahan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Callahan throws a lazy head kick and Shilo connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Callahan avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Callahan shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Callahan dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Shilo. That did some damage! Callahan throws a jab but it's blocked by Shilo. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Callahan throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Callahan fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Shilo checks it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callahan with a jab. Shilo throws a head kick that misses. Callahan takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Callahan thows a left - swing and a miss! Callahan lands a leg kick that knocks Shilo off balance momentarily. Shilo displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Callahan throws out the jab. A decent looking cross lands there for Callahan. Callahan swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Shilo looks to throw the jab but Callahan is out of range. Shilo tries to clinch but Callahan moves out of range. Shilo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Callahan. Shilo works the jab nicely. Harry Callahan seems to be getting the better of the standup. A looping hook to the body misses from Shilo. Callahan does a little dance to reset his feet. Craig Shilo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Callahan lands a head kick!
Callahan stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Callahan cracks Shilo with a right hand to the side of the head.
Shilo is rocked! Callahan lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Oh Shilo is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Callahan closes the distance and lands a crisp combination that knocks Shilo out cold! Shilo corner are devastated, head in hands behind our commentary position. Poor guys.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:19 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Harry Callahan! An out of breath Harry Callahan thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
