Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Alfred Mcguire! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joao Ronaldo! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Luis Engracia and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ronaldo checks a leg kick. Ronaldo shoots in and bounces Mcguire off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Mcguire keeping moving, preventing Ronaldo from controlling successfully. Mcguire seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Joao Ronaldo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Mcguire closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ronaldo looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Mcguire tries to stand but can't do so whilst Ronaldo controls his leg. Mcguire is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mcguire working Ronaldo over with strikes. Mcguire wants to work for an arm triangle but Ronaldo is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcguire tries to stand and escape but Ronaldo actually recovers to full guard. Mcguire wants to pass the guard but Ronaldo is keeping the position. Mcguire got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ronaldo has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Mcguire has managed to get both his arms back between Ronaldo's legs - danger averted. Mcguire throws a strike but Ronaldo rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Ronaldo controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronaldo trying to control the position from guard on top but Mcguire is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Mcguire might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Ronaldo looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Mcguire wants to clinch up but Ronaldo keeps it at a distance. Ronaldo misses with a body shot.
Mcguire darts in and clinches Ronaldo up against the cage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Mcguire gets control of Ronaldo's arms and successfully pulls guard. Mcguire will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Alfred Mcguire will probably get the nod. That's time! Back to the action!
Ronaldo scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Mcguire could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. You can see the frustration on Mcguire's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Ronaldo trying to control the position but Mcguire is working away. Mcguire is trying to improve his position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Joao Ronaldo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Ronaldo closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mcguire quickly recovers to half guard. Ronaldo is taking a breather. Mcguire says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

Joao Ronaldo has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Mcguire feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Ronaldo's calf. Mcguire misses with a low kick.
Mcguire tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Ronaldo gets a double leg takedown into Mcguire's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronaldo is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Joao Ronaldo wasn't active enough on the ground. Ronaldo looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. The fighters are battling for position here. Mcguire manages to regain full guard. Nice work. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ronaldo's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Joao Ronaldo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Ronaldo shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Mcguire's guard. Mcguire can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ronaldo controls the pace. If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Mcguire shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mcguire was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Mcguire wants to stand but Ronaldo has his arm trapped. Mcguire is trying to get an arm triangle but Ronaldo is defending well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mcguire goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Ronaldo has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Mcguire but great work by Ronaldo. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Mcguire tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ronaldo presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount! Mcguire really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Ronaldo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Mcguire has worked his arm free - good work by Mcguire!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ronaldo wants to stand but Mcguire has him controlled and pulls him back into his guard. Mcguire tries to land a sweep but no joy.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Mcguire is trying to keep Ronaldo in close.
