Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Rodrigo Gonzales! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 1, fighting out of London, James Barnett! The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gonzales closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Barnett to the mat! Barnett manages to get full guard. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Gonzales postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Gonzales advances to half guard. The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gonzales seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Barnett for as long as he can get away with. Gonzales is looking to advance position but Barnett won't allow it. Gonzales works his way into full mount! Gonzales raining down hammerfists from mount.
It looks like James Barnett has been cut. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Gonzales lands a couple of good shots and Barnett has given up his back, trying to escape the position! Gonzales has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Gonzales has the hooks in. Barnett is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. Gonzales is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Barnett won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Gonzales off his unconscious opponent!
