Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, G Row! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Niinep Ninwe! The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Viktor Lagutenko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Row gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Ninwe. Ninwe tries to bum rush Row with a series of wild strikes but Row uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Ninwe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Row. Row takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Ninwe throws a series of punches but Row moves out of range. Row drives through with a takedown into guard. Row advances position into side control! Row tries for a kimura but Ninwe is defending well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Row wants to control but Ninwe is keeping him busy. Ninwe tries to improve position but can't. Row has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Ninwe! Ninwe is trying to escape the mount.
Ninwe swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Row scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Row working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Row jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Ninwe manages to avoid the submission attempt. Row postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Ninwe tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Row wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Row is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Ninwe is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Row is breathing heavily. Ninwe is looking for a sweep. Ninwe gets back to half guard. Row is looking for a kimura here.
Ninwe is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Row's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Row's back!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ninwe working for the choke. Ninwe lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Row hold on?!
Ninwe working for a RNC but it's not happening just yet. Row tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell! Row manages to regain half guard. Good work. Row makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Row. Ninwe in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Ninwe tries to free his leg and advance position but Row is retaining full guard. Row is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ninwe is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Row is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Row has escaped and now he's on top! Row works a leg free and moves into half guard. Row frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Row wants to finish this one by submission but Ninwe is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Row. Ninwe is looking to get to half guard. Row is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Ninwe can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Row is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Ninwe has managed to escape the submission attempt.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Ninwe is wriggling around trying to escape.
Row working for a guillotine from mount but Ninwe is in no mood to give up. Ninwe is looking to get to half guard. Row looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Ninwe tries to get back to half guard but can't. Ninwe is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
G Row dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Row changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ninwe looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Ninwe is not content to let Row control the position. Ninwe is looking to regain half guard here but Row keeps moving and retains side control. Row has knee on belly and moves into mount. Row looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead. Ninwe regains half guard. Row wants to pass to mount but Ninwe is defending the position. Row is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Ninwe is just riding it out for now. Row eventually gives up the hold. Ninwe slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ninwe throwing short punches from the bottom. Row avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Row is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Ninwe working for a triangle but Row defends it easily.
Ninwe had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Row is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ninwe Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Row's back instead. Row tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Row manages to regain half guard. Good work. Row gets full guard. Ninwe thows a big elbow that misses. Row has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Ninwe should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Row has tightened it up now! Ninwe should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
