PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Douglas Kopejtka (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junji Kodama (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kopejtka comes to the cage accompanied by Metamorphosis by Blue Stahli. Kodama has chosen Of Wolf and Man - Metallica as his entrance music. The key to victory for Douglas Kopejtka has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Douglas Kopejtka!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Junji Kodama!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Eddie Farnsworth and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kodama shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kodama showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Kopejtka regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Kodama.
Kopejtka is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Kodama is controlling him.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kodama accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kodama controls from within his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kopejtka avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Kodama won't allow Kopejtka to get back to his feet.
Kodama throws a big right hand that misses.
Kodama trying to control but Kopejtka is working from the bottom.
Kodama slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Kodama connects with a couple of short punches.

Kodama wants to pass the guard but Kopejtka is keeping the position.
Kodama has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Canadian Top Team. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.
Kopejtka is looking to stand up but Kodama isn't so interested in that idea.
Kodama passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Kodama wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Kopejtka, who protects the arm well.

Kodama goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Kopejtka has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Kodama but great work by Kopejtka.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Kodama prevents Kopejtka from improving position.
Kodama sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kodama regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kodama is trying to control the position but Kopejtka postures up.
Kodama manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kopejtka manages to get himself to full guard.
Kodama won't allow Kopejtka to get back to his feet.
Kopejtka keeping moving, preventing Kodama from controlling successfully.
Kopejtka wants to get back to his feet but Kodama is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Kopejtka definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.
Kodama is working Kopejtka over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kopejtka preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Kodama is pushing down on Kopejtka's leg trying to pass to half guard. Kopejtka is fighting to maintain full guard but Kodama has managed to sneak the leg through.
Kodama has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kodama pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Kodama! Kopejtka is hurt baaadly! Kodama is firing away with more strikes - Kopejtka is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Junji Kodama!
Junji Kodama gave a mention to Kore Fight Nutrition [TG] in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
