Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fernando Alves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kazushi Sakuraba (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alves comes to the ring accompanied by Rob Zombie - Scum of the earth . Kazushi Sakuraba told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Fernando Alves!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 31 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazushi Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Alec Ball and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alves swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Alves lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Sakuraba stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Alves.
Sakuraba tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Alves defends well and Sakuraba ends up having to push Alves into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Sakuraba is trying to drag Alves to the mat but Alves just about manages to keep his footing. He used the ropes to his advantage there.
Sakuraba is looking for a takedown up against the ropes. Alves gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Fernando Alves has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kazushi Sakuraba.
Sakuraba tries for a takedown but Alves manages to get underhooks.
Alves lands a hook to the side of the head.
Alves lands with a light punch inside.
Alves lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Alves is trying to stall.

Alves lands a hook that snaps the head of Sakuraba backwards.
Alves works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Alves lands a right hand that snaps the head of Sakuraba backwards.
We've been hearing reports that Alves has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Alves works on Sakuraba's body with a couple of short punches.
Alves has Sakuraba pressed against the ropes.

Sakuraba wants a takedown.
Sakuraba drops down looking for an ankle pick but Alves pulls his leg out and moves away.
Alves lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Sakuraba at a distance.
Alves connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Fernando Alves is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Alves throws a nice outside leg kick.
Sakuraba rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Alves moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Alves clinches up against the ropes.
Sakuraba tries to pull guard but Alves won't allow it.
Alves scores with a hook to the body.
Sakuraba takes a shot to the head.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Alves lands a right hand.
Alves softening up his opponent with strikes, against the ropes.
Sakuraba has Alves pressed up against the ropes and is working for takedown. Alves manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Alves lands a nice shot to the body.
Alves working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Sakuraba's head jolts backwards as he takes an uppercut right on the button!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sakuraba jumps guard but Alves stands there with Sakuraba around his waist. Sakuraba gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Alves dips a shoulder and cracks Sakuraba with a mighty uppercut! Sakuraba falls back against the ropes and Alves unloads with a barrage of strikes! Sakuraba is completely out with his eyes open, only supported by the ropes! Save him ref! Eventually the ref decides to do his job and jumps in - Alves screams abuse at the incompetent official before going over to celebrate with his corner. Brutal stuff!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Fernando Alves!

Fernando Alves decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
