PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mark Dunn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Erkki Elastinen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dunn comes to the cage accompanied by Diary of a Madman. The crowd seem to be enjoying Elastinen's choice of entrance music: Cascada - Dangerous. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Dunn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 24 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Erkki Elastinen!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Columbo Gatti and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Elastinen with a poor takedown
and Dunn counters with a straight right hand.

Dunn closes the distance and clinches.
Elastinen is looking to take this one to the mat.
The referee calls for Dunn to work.
Dunn is trying to wear down his opponent with knees to the body.
Dunn throws an elbow but it's blocked.

Elastinen turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Elastinen manages to end up in side control.
Elastinen wants to control but Dunn is keeping him busy.
Dunn gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Elastinen looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Dunn is squirming around, avoiding Elastinen's attempts to control the action.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

Elastinen goes for a double leg but Dunn avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dunn continues to drive forward.

Dunn tightens his grip and picks Elastinen up, before dumping him to the ground. Elastinen manages to land in guard.
Elastinen tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Dunn postures up in Elastinen's guard and throws a big left but Elastinen blocks it.
Dunn is working Elastinen over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dunn is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Elastinen stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dunn swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Elastinen sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Dunn's guard.
Elastinen wants to pass to mount but Dunn is defending the position.
Dunn has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Elastinen is working away from the top position though.
Dunn holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dunn is looking to control Elastinen's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dunn avoid being mounted?
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mark Dunn.
Elastinen shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Dunn but Dunn pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mark Dunn will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Dunn.
Erkki Elastinen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Elastinen looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dunn is fending him off so far but Elastinen persists. Nope, Dunn circles away and we're back to standing.

Dunn leaves Elastinen with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Elastinen misses with a takedown attempt - Dunn sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Elastinen tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Dunn defends well and Elastinen ends up having to push Dunn into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Dunn gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Dunn apologises and we restart here on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Horrible takedown attempt by Elastinen or perhaps it was just good defense by Dunn, which made it look bad.
Elastinen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Dunn.
Dunn tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Elastinen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Elastinen tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dunn sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Elastinen somewhat.

Elastinen shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Elastinen showed some decent athleticism there.

Elastinen seems to be working for a kimura but Dunn defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Elastinen passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Dunn!
