Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Clay Thomas!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Dean Styles and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Watson fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Watson throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
enabling Thomas to counter with a crisp jab.
Watson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Thomas looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Thomas checks a low kick from Watson.
Thomas throws a right and a left that Watson avoids nicely.
Watson lands with a thumping leg kick.
Watson throws a low kick but Thomas moves out of range easily.
Watson blocks a low kick nicely.
Thomas's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Watson connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Thomas scrambles back to his feet.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sloppy strikes from Thomas. Those never looked like landing.
Thomas misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Thomas throws a body kick that misses.
Watson misses with a head kick.
A left lands for Watson.
A head kick misses from Watson.
Thomas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Watson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thomas quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Watson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Thomas keeps working.
Thomas tries to get to full guard but Watson has control of the leg.

Watson is trying to work for a kimura but Thomas is defending well.
Watson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Watson throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Thomas felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
Thomas avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Watson.
Watson is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Watson throwing strikes but missing.
Watson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomas pulls Watson in close to his closed guard and prevents Watson from doing any damage or advancing position.
Watson postures up in Thomas's guard and throws a big left but Thomas blocks it.
Watson in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Watson throws a big elbow that misses.

Watson has gone for a leg lock! Thomas slips out almost immediately though and dives into Watson's guard.
Thomas wants to stand but Watson is controlling his posture from full guard.
Watson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Thomas manages to get himself to full guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Watson throwing strikes from guard but Thomas blocks nicely.
Watson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Watson trying to control but Thomas is working from the bottom.
Watson is looking to work some ground and pound but Thomas has wrist control.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Watson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Watson connects with a couple of short punches.
Thomas utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Watson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thomas swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Watson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Watson throws a big right hand that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Watson with a flurry of punches that miss.
Thomas working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Watson.
Thomas keeping moving, preventing Watson from controlling successfully.
Thomas lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Thomas engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Watson controls Thomas momentarily but Thomas frees himself.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Watson pushes a forearm under Thomas's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Thomas is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Mason Watson!
An out of breath Mason Watson thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
