PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Fryer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Frankie Fryer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Miguel Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Aafke Stam and Daniel Blasius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Fryer with that takedown attempt.

Sanchez gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Fryer's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Fryer throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Sanchez tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Fryer is in Sanchez's guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Fryer gets to his feet. Sanchez looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Fryer thuds a left hand into Sanchez's body.
Fryer throws a head kick but Sanchez moves out of range.

Fryer looking to score a takedown here. Sanchez is defending well but Fryer drives through and ends up in Sanchez's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Fryer postures up.
Sanchez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fryer. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sanchez pulls Fryer in to control the position.
Fryer slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Sanchez is trying to improve his position.
Fryer is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Fryer lands some shots froms side control.
Fryer trying to control the action but Sanchez is working from the bottom.

Fryer wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sanchez, who protects the arm well.

Fryer thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Fryer is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Sanchez is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Fryer trying to control the action but Sanchez is working from the bottom.
Sanchez wants to control but Fryer postures up.
Fryer is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Fryer lands a decent elbow from side control.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Fryer presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanchez stops Fryer from taking his back. Still, being mounted isn't any better.

Fryer looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Fryer goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sanchez turns into him and now he's in Fryer's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Fryer dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Fryer fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sanchez, pushing him back against the cage.

Fryer pulls guard.
Fryer is trying to control the position but Sanchez postures up.
Fryer is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Fryer is working for a kimura but Sanchez is defending it quite comfortably.
Sanchez is looking for a sweep. Fryer is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sanchez is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fryer is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Fryer is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Fryer has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sanchez is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fryer takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Fryer goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sanchez turns into him and now he's in Fryer's guard.
Fryer wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Fryer tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Fryer's guard.

Sanchez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fryer is just riding it out for now. Sanchez eventually gives up the hold.
Fryer regains full guard. Nicely done.
Fryer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sanchez's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fryer is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Fryer passes Sanchez's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Fryer takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Fryer moves nicely into side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Fryer stands up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Frankie Fryer dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


A punch combination from Fryer misses.

Fryer shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sanchez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sanchez is trying to hold Fryer in close to prevent damage but Fryer has managed to pass into half guard.
Sanchez has a hand on Fryer's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Fryer takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
Sanchez tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Fryer lands a couple of good shots and Sanchez has given up his back, trying to escape the position!
Sanchez just trying to survive but Fryer is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Fryer has his arm under Sanchez's chin here. Game over son! Fryer squeezes tightly and Sanchez is forced to tap out!
