Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bret Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mike Matthews (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mike Matthews will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mike Matthews! The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Donald Grub and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A looping hook to the body misses from Matthews. Schultz does a little dance to reset his feet. Matthews has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Schultz is landing a low percentage of strikes. A shot to the liver by Matthews. Beautiful body shot. Matthews shoots in for a takedown but Schultz shows good takedown defense. Schultz lands a lovely overhand right. Schultz definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Schultz wants to clinch up but Matthews keeps it at a distance. Matthews throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
It looks like Bret Schultz has been cut. Matthews lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Schultz avoids a punch combination nicely.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Schultz holds on and takes a little breather. Schultz is looking for a triangle but Matthews pushes his legs off easily.

It's a bit of a token attempt though and Matthews regains control of the situation pretty easily.

But Matthews has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Matthews! Schultz will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Schultz eventually gives up the hold. Schultz looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Matthews wants to get back to his feet.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Matthews. Mike Matthews seems to be getting the better of the standup. Schultz shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Matthews as he jumps to the side. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Bret Schultz. That's going to take a lot out of him. Matthews misses with a jab, cross combination.
Matthews goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Matthews throws a body punch but Schultz moves out of range. Matthews is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Matthews moves into the clinch successfully.

Schultz prevents Matthews from getting back to his feet. Schultz throws an elbow that misses. Matthews uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Schultz's guard. Nice move by Matthews! Schultz is trying to control the position but Matthews postures up. Schultz is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Matthews is controlling him. Schultz has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall. Schultz keeping moving, preventing Matthews from controlling successfully. Matthews postures up.

Mike Matthews has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Schultz shoots in for a takedown but Matthews shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Schultz on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those. Schultz looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Matthews! Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - a gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Matthews is not content to let Schultz control the position.
