PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ruben Gerolf (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cranky Mark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ruben Gerolf is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ruben Gerolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cranky Mark!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mark throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Mark has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Gerolf throws a leg kick
and Mark counters with a thumping low kick.

Mark fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Gerolf to the ground. Mark is now in Gerolf's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Mark showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Mark trying to control the position from guard on top but Gerolf is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mark keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gerolf's head.
Mark stays in close to Gerolf's body and controls the position.
It looks like Mark might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Gerolf knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mark on the ground.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Cranky Mark.

Mark takes the fight into the clinch.
Mark prevents a body shot from Gerolf.
Mark blocks a body shot from Gerolf.

Mark has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Gerolf regains guard immediately.
Mark passes Gerolf's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Gerolf trying to control from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mark throwing shots but Gerolf is blocking nicely.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mark is looking to advance position but Gerolf won't allow it.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gerolf is trying to control but can't.
Mark content to control rather than advance.
Gerolf keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mark is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Gerolf looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mark content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Gerolf keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mark is taking a breather. Gerolf says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Gerolf blocking the ground and pound attempt from Mark.
Mark works his way into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Mark tries for a kimura but Gerolf is defending well.
Gerolf wants to control but Mark postures up.
Mark working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Mark thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The referee asks Mark politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Mark prefers to stall for the moment though.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Mark in side control, throwing shots but Gerolf defends.
Mark has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Gerolf!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cranky Mark dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Mark scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Mark looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Mark working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.


Gerolf is rocked!
Mark moves into full mount! Gerolf won't be happy about that!
Mark content just to control the position here.
Mark has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Mark lands a big shot to the head and Gerolf winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Cranky Mark!
