Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derek Humphry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sid Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cortez has chosen Take Five by Tito Puente as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Derek Humphry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sid Cortez! The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortez closes the distance and clinches up with Humphry, looking for a takedown. Cortez pushes Humphry against the cage but Humphry circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Cortez fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Cortez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Humphry tries to avoid it but Cortez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Humphry to the ground. Humphry escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Derek Humphry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sid Cortez. Cortez shoots in looking for a takedown. Humphry tries to sprawl out of it but Cortez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Humphry manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Cortez has a takedown stuffed. Cortez bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Cortez dodges the punch combination from Humphry.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cortez tries to close the distance and clinch but Humphry swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Cortez shoots in for a double leg but Humphry sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's one minute gone in the round. Humphry will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Cortez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Humphry fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Cortez misses with a takedown attempt - Humphry sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Humphry misses with a series of wild punches.
Cortez looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Humphry is fending him off so far but Cortez persists. Nope, Humphry circles away and we're back to standing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Cortez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Cortez looks gassed! A punch combination from Humphry misses. Cortez looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Humphry avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Cortez misses with a takedown attempt - Humphry sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Sid Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cortez slips a jab from Humphry. Humphry misses with a few strikes there.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortez walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
It looks like Sid Cortez has been cut. Humphry rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cortez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Humphry throws a right hand that Cortez ducks under and follows up with a left that Cortez also avoids with ease. Derek Humphry is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cortez looks for a takedown but Humphry sprawls well. Humphry fails to land with a series of punches.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Cortez moves in looking to clinch but Humphry pushes him off. Cortez misses with a takedown attempt - Humphry sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Horrible takedown by Cortez or perhaps it was just good defense by Humphry which made him look bad. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Humphry slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range. Humphry closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Cortez! Humphry dives in looking to finish! Cortez is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
