PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Romo Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and MSgt. Rupert Ritzik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rupert Ritzik. MSgt. Rupert Ritzik will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Romo Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, MSgt. Rupert Ritzik!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ritzik misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Diaz.
Ritzik throws a half hearted mid kick.
Ritzik feints and then cracks Diaz's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Diaz down.
A telegraphed right hand from Ritzik misses the target.
Ritzik pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ritzik throws a leg kick
and Ritzik takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Diaz goes for a double leg but Ritzik avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Ritzik continues to drive forward.

Diaz turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Diaz manages to end up in side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ritzik sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Diaz lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Ritzik down.
Diaz has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Ritzik parries the strikes from Diaz easily there. Diaz is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ritzik to escape.

It looks like MSgt. Rupert Ritzik has been cut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ritzik is trying to improve his position.
Diaz controls the position from side control.
Diaz wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ritzik keeps working.
Ritzik is looking to reverse the position.
Diaz lands a few punches from side control.
Diaz throws an elbow but Ritzik slips to the side and avoids it well.

Diaz creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Ritzik sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ritzik takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
The strikes coming from Diaz are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Diaz trying to control the action but Ritzik is working from the bottom.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ritzik tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Diaz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz wants to control but Ritzik is keeping him busy.
Diaz misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is looking to take a break and control but Ritzik is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

That has opened up MSgt. Rupert Ritzik's cut even more.
Ritzik is letting Diaz control him for a moment.
Ritzik tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Diaz wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sloppy strikes there by Diaz.
Ritzik tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it.
You can see the frustration on Ritzik's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Diaz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Ritzik prevents Diaz from improving position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ritzik wants to control but Diaz postures up.

Diaz sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Ritzik is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at MSgt. Rupert Ritzik's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Romo Diaz!
Romo Diaz got down on his knees post fight and begged the management for a title shot. 'Please, I want that title shot so bad! Give it to me!'
