Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Hunter Akbar! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mike Stevens! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Alan Glass and Tiny Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stevens throws a hook but Akbar blocks it. We've been hearing reports that Akbar has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight. Stevens looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Akbar! We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup. Akbar is working to avoid the ground and pound but Stevens connects with a decent elbow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Stevens trying to control the position but Akbar is working away. Stevens in the domination position with Akbar hanging on. You can see the frustration on Akbar's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Stevens looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Akbar is avoiding damage well.

That's one minute gone in the round. It looks like Stevens might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Akbar is not content to let Stevens control the position. Akbar is trying to get back to full guard.
OK we're going to have a standup here. Mike Stevens hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart. Stevens looks to throw the jab but Akbar is out of range. Stevens ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. A nice leg kick lands there from Akbar. Akbar dives in for a single leg takedown but Stevens sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Stevens drags the fight down to the ground.

Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Stevens struggling a bit here. Akbar is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Stevens is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Stevens is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it. Stevens is trying to control Akbar's posture but Akbar avoids it. That was a close round but I would say that Hunter Akbar will probably get the nod. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Stevens pushes down on Akbar's head and hops out. Stevens shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Stevens showed some decent athleticism there. Akbar is refusing to be controlled, as Stevens sits in half guard. Akbar slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Akbar is trying to control the position from the bottom.

No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Akbar stops Stevens from standing up. Hunter Akbar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Akbar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Stevens working a defensive guard here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Mike Stevens wasn't active enough on the ground. Akbar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Akbar is working for a kimura but Stevens is defending it quite comfortably.

Akbar is looking for a kimura but Stevens is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Akbar to get the leverage. Akbar is thwarting Stevens's attempts to control the position. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Akbar connects with a nice short shot to Stevens's temple. Akbar wants to work for an arm triangle but Stevens is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Stevens rolls, trying to escape but Akbar keeps control of the position.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Hunter Akbar! Hunter Akbar opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
