PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between B D (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zeus Fordig (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Zeus Fordig!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

D clinches up against the cage.
Fordig stalling in the clinch but D improves position.
D stalls.
D prevents the takedown attempt.
Fordig is trying to break free.

D breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
D misses with a wild combination.

D closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - D lands in his opponent's guard.

D is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
D tries to free his leg and advance position but Fordig is retaining full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

D drops back looking for a leg! Fordig is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Fordig manages to kick D off! D jumps back into Fordig's guard.

D decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Fordig, up you get!
D is breathing heavily.

Fordig tries to clinch up but D circles away and keeps his distance.
Fordig is looking to slow D down with leg kicks.
Fordig shoots in for a double leg but D sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Fordig instigates a clinch.
D keeps control of Fordig as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
D tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Fordig wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
D blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Fordig escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

and D counters with a single leg into guard. Fordig didn't expect that.
D throws and elbow that misses. Fordig uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in D's guard. Nice move by Fordig!
Fordig stays in close to D's body and controls the position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
D trying to keep a closed guard but Fordig is proving a slippery customer.
Fordig would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
D keeping moving, preventing Fordig from controlling successfully.
Fordig wants to stand and escape but instead D has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Fordig really doesn't want to stay on the ground with D. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

D drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and D jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
D prevents Fordig from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

D seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Fordig is holding on tight.

D misses with a head shot.
Fordig is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Fordig is desperately trying to improve his position but D has a good base and remains in mount.

D jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Fordig manages to avoid the submission attempt.
D has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fordig prevents D from improving position.

D tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Fordig is looking to regain half guard here but D keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fordig fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
D shoots in for a double leg but Fordig sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Fordig.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

D has gone for a leg lock! Fordig slips out almost immediately though and dives into D's guard.

D wants to sweep here but Fordig controlling him for the moment.
Fordig slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
D thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.

D uses the cage to get back to his feet.

D drives through with a takedown into guard.
D wants to control from the top but Fordig keeps moving.
D trying to move into half guard but instead Fordig has managed to sweep!

D is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

D is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

D thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fordig's head.
D is trying to control the action in half guard but Fordig is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
D tries to pass the half guard into mount. Fordig knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Fordig doesn't manage to clinch there - D circles away.

B D overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Fordig can't keep his opponent in guard - D advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
D is looking to take a break and control but Fordig is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
D moves nicely into side control.

D decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Fordig throws a nice looking combination but D bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

D clinches with his opponent.
A short body shot lands from Fordig as the two fighters clinch.
Fordig blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Fordig is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Fordig gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from D.
Fordig lands a hook that snaps the head of D backwards.

D displaying some good clinch control by pressing Fordig up against the cage.
Fordig tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. D smiles and moves away.
B D seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Horrible takedown by D or perhaps it was just good defense by Fordig which made him look bad.

Fordig shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says D as he avoids it easily.

D manages to break the clinch.
D shoots in looking for a takedown. Fordig tries to sprawl out of it but D keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Fordig manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Fordig will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

B D showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for D, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
