Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Frederic Tanner! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John S Pierre! The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Summer Carpenter and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pierre lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Pierre moves into the clinch. Pierre turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Tanner is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Pierre goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Tanner rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Pierre's guard! Nice work there by Tanner! Pierre working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Tanner. Pierre is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Tanner will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Tanner is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Pierre is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Tanner is aware though and is defending well. Tanner works over Pierre with some ground and pound from guard. Tanner throws a big elbow that misses. Tanner with a nice head shot there. Pierre is looking for a triangle here but Tanner uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Tanner landing a few strikes. Pierre taking a bit of punishment here - Tanner scoring with strikes. Pierre is looking to regain half guard here but Tanner keeps moving and retains side control. Tanner connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Pierre some visible discomfort.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pierre is trying to improve his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Pierre manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Pierre throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Tanner to regain full guard. Pierre wants to control from the top but Tanner keeps moving. Tanner striking off his back, scoring a few points. Tanner will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Pierre has Tanner up against the cage in a clinch.
Pierre keeps control of Tanner as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Pierre takes a shot to the head. Pierre pulls guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Tanner chips away with some ground and pound. Tanner lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Tanner works over Pierre with some ground and pound from guard. Tanner throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Tanner makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Pierre looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Tanner puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard. Pierre is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Tanner pulls his head out easily. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Tanner is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Pierre looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Pierre looks winded! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tanner looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pierre with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Frederic Tanner will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Pierre rushes Tanner and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch. Pierre has Tanner pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Pierre pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Tanner tumbling to the mat - Pierre dives into Tanner's guard. Tanner is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Tanner is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Tanner trying to control the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tanner striking off his back, scoring a few points. Tanner lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Tanner got a little sloppy there for a moment and Pierre has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Tanner has managed to get both his arms back between Pierre's legs - danger averted. Tanner is working Pierre over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Tanner stands up over Pierre, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Tanner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Pierre has momentary wrist control but Tanner slips an elbow through the middle. Tanner working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Pierre is looking for a triangle but Tanner pushes his legs off easily.

Tanner cracks Pierre with a solid left hand.
Pierre is rocked! Tanner landing some decent shots from guard. Pierre is still in real trouble! Can Tanner finish him? Tanner working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Pierre's head. Tanner distracts Pierre with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Tanner postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Tanner loads up on a big left hand. Pierre felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Tanner looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Pierre can't hide his disappointment, as Tanner celebrates the victory.
