PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Keith Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smith kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Smoke the Fire. Johnny Smith has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 29 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Johnny Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Keith Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Ron Honeybunn, Chris Dean and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Diaz has taken the fight to the clinch.
Diaz jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Smith walks away with a smile on his face. Diaz gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smith manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Diaz is not content to let Smith control the position.
Diaz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smith wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Diaz regains half guard.
Smith wants to stand up but Diaz has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Diaz looking for subs from the bottom but Smith mounts him!
Smith scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Diaz?
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Smith jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Diaz manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Smith, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
