Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Lewis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Leon DeLaurier! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lewis shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and DeLaurier counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. DeLaurier controls from within his opponent's guard. DeLaurier working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lewis's head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lewis keeping moving, preventing DeLaurier from controlling successfully. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. DeLaurier throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Lewis works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Lewis is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and DeLaurier defends well. Lewis manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! DeLaurier bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
That's one minute gone in the round. DeLaurier trying to control but Lewis is working from the bottom. DeLaurier showing good wrestling skills to control the position. DeLaurier trying to control but Lewis is working from the bottom. DeLaurier connects with a couple of short punches. Lewis is looking to sweep but instead, DeLaurier has passed into half guard.
DeLaurier throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Lewis tries to kick DeLaurier off but DeLaurier keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. DeLaurier is trying to control the action in half guard but Lewis is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Lewis blocking the ground and pound attempt from DeLaurier. DeLaurier trying to control from half guard but Lewis is working away. DeLaurier throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. DeLaurier sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Lewis defending well though. DeLaurier misses with a head shot. Lewis uses the momentum to regain guard. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. DeLaurier trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. DeLaurier working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lewis's head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. DeLaurier slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Lewis has momentary wrist control but DeLaurier slips an elbow through the middle. Lewis is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lewis looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
DeLaurier working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Lewis's head. Lewis not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
DeLaurier lands a couple of digs. DeLaurier chips away with some ground and pound. DeLaurier content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots. Lewis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. DeLaurier trying to control but Lewis is working from the bottom. DeLaurier stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Lewis swivels though and keeps the full guard. Lewis pushes DeLaurier off and gets back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. DeLaurier stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and DeLaurier wants it to stay on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. DeLaurier tries to clinch up. Lewis shoots for a double leg takedown but DeLaurier sprawls well. He's pushed Lewis's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Lewis. That's going to take a lot out of him. DeLaurier scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. DeLaurier throws a strike aimed at the side of Lewis's head but Lewis avoids it well. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. DeLaurier works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. DeLaurier scoring with punches and elbows. Lewis is looking for a sweep. Lewis is trying to control DeLaurier's posture but DeLaurier avoids it. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! DeLaurier in side control lands a decent elbow.
Lewis is rocked! DeLaurier cracks Lewis with a big right hand but Lewis just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Oh Lewis is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! DeLaurier moves into full mount! DeLaurier tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. DeLaurier has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Lewis's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Leon DeLaurier dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
DeLaurier closes the distance and pushes Lewis back into the cage. DeLaurier tightens his grip and picks Lewis up, before dumping him to the ground. Lewis manages to land in guard. DeLaurier works over Lewis with some ground and pound from guard. DeLaurier keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Lewis's head. DeLaurier postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Lewis covers up, he's hurt! DeLaurier keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from DeLaurier and the ref steps in to end the fight! DeLaurier can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:23 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Leon DeLaurier! Leon DeLaurier decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
