Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dillon Schell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jack Liston! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jonathan Paton and Columbo Gatti.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liston shoots in looking for a takedown. Schell tries to sprawl out of it but Liston keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Schell manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Schell is looking to clinch. Liston misses with a takedown and Liston takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
It looks like Jack Liston has been cut. Liston shoots in for a takedown but Schell shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Dillon Schell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jack Liston. Liston has his takedown stuffed letting Schell counter with a right hand. Liston shoots and misses and Schell counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Schell. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Schell wants to stand but Liston has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Schell trying to control but Liston is working from the bottom. Schell distracts Liston with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Liston is rocked! Schell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Liston has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Schell has managed to get both his arms back between Liston's legs - danger averted. Liston is still in real trouble! Can Schell finish him? Liston throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Liston has a closed guard, preventing Schell from standing up. Liston seems to have recovered his senses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Liston looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Liston looks winded! Schell lands a couple of decent looking shots. Liston has his feet on Schell's thighs here. He's pushed Schell off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Schell screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Jack Liston! Jack Liston decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
