Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
35 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Shane Waitzel! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
31 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Kyle Romo! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Alyssa Summers and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Waitzel attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Romo on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Waitzel. Waitzel obviously looking to wear him down.
Waitzel misses the shot to the body. Romo throws a hook to the side of Waitzel's head but Waitzel sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Romo throws a series of punches but Waitzel moves out of range. Romo on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
It looks like John Kyle Romo has been cut. Romo blocks the body kick.
Waitzel is looking to land body kicks. Waitzel ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Romo moves away. Waitzel throws a nice looking combination but Romo bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Waitzel moves out of range of the leg kick from Romo. Romo dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Waitzel. That did some damage! Waitzel looks for the body kick but Romo saw that one coming. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Romo misses with an uppercut
and Waitzel connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Waitzel throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Waitzel misses with a hook. Romo ducked under it nicely. Waitzel moves out of range of the body kick from Romo.

That's one minute gone in the round. Romo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face. Waitzel blocks a low kick nicely. Waitzel attempts a low kick but it misses it's target. Romo lands with a right hand. A telegraphed right hand from Waitzel misses the target. Romo on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Waitzel. Waitzel obviously looking to wear him down.
Waitzel fakes the leg kick and cracks Romo in the body. Waitzel with a nice cross. Waitzel has been working on his boxing with his coaches at Mugler Jiu Jitsu in the buildup to the fight. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Waitzel throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. A swing and a miss from Waitzel. Romo wants to clinch. Waitzel swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Romo throws a leg kick but Waitzel sees it coming and checks it nicely. Romo blocks a leg kick.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Waitzel connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Romo avoids a kick to the body.
Waitzel fakes a right and follows up with a big left that drops Romo to one knee - oooooh, he's wobbly! Romo looks to clinch but Waitzel throws him off and pummels him into the canvas! Romo taps out under the strikes! The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Shane Waitzel! Shane Waitzel retains his heavyweight title! During a confident post fight interview, Shane Waitzel thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
