PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Benjamin Nieves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Quigg (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Quigg feints and as Nieves raises his hands in defense, Quigg changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Quigg slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nieves is on top in guard.
Quigg controlling the position.
Nieves will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nieves postures up in Quigg's guard and throws a big left but Quigg blocks it.
Quigg pulls Nieves in close to his closed guard and prevents Nieves from doing any damage or advancing position.
Nieves connects with a couple of short punches.
Nieves is looking to work some ground and pound but Quigg has wrist control.
Quigg thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Quigg manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nieves manages to get himself to full guard.

Quigg wants to control from the top but Nieves keeps moving.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nieves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Quigg got a little sloppy there for a moment and Nieves has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Quigg has managed to get both his arms back between Nieves's legs - danger averted.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Quigg not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Jason Quigg has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Quigg looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Nieves throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Quigg counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Quigg wants to stand but Nieves has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Quigg stands up over Nieves, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Quigg tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Quigg looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Nieves tries to get to full guard but Quigg has control of the leg.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Quigg is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
