PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Matt Green (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Landen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Green comes to the cage accompanied by Raining Blood. Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Paul Landen enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Green!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Paul Landen!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Green closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Green throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Green tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Green working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Landen can't do much from the bottom here.
Landen has one of Green's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage.
Landen managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Green.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The strikes coming from Green are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Landen is trying to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Landen wants to control but Green postures up.
Green scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Landen to see if he's OK.

You can see the frustration on Landen's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Green is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Landen is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Green has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Green looks up at the clock and then as Landen takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Green smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

We've been hearing that Green has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Green is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Landen is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Green is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Landen doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Green.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Landen lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Landen.
Landen turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Landen scores with a head kick. Green tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.


It looks like Matt Green has been cut.
Green takes one to the chin there.


Green is rocked!
Green fails with a takedown attempt.
Oh Green is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Green throws a lazy right hand but Landen sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Green seems to have got his legs back now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Landen throws a sloppy head kick and Green moves out of range easily.
Green doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Landen counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Paul Landen is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Landen lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Landen ducks under a wild hook from Green.
Landen scores with a hook to the body. Green takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

Green shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Green showed some decent athleticism there.
Landen wants to get back to full guard.
Green thows a huge punch but Landen dodges it nicely.

Green tries to free his leg and advance position but Landen is retaining full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Green avoids a kick to the body.

Landen throws a front kick that sends Green stumbling back into the cage.
Landen throws a leg kick which misses Green's front leg but catches the back leg as Green tries to avoid it.
Landen looks to throw the jab but Green is out of range.
Green has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Landen finds it's way round the side to connect with Green's head.
Green dives in and grabs Landen's left leg, looking for a takedown. Landen pushes down on Green's head and hops out.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Green. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A jab from Landen does it's job there.
Green fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Landen avoids it really well and circles away.
Green looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Landen is fending him off so far but Green persists. Nope, Landen circles away and we're back to standing.
Landen cracks Green with a good jab.

Green takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Landen stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Green shoots for a takedown but Landen saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

and Landen cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Green takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.

Landen keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.

A jab from Landen finds it's way through Green's defenses.
Green leaves his chin hanging out and Landen seizes the opportunity with an uppercut! Green crumbles to the floor in a heap! The referee steps in and tends to the downed fighter! What a knockout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Paul Landen!
