Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Leo Howe! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Brian Viloria! The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Illya Tyunina and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Viloria scores with a jab to the body. Viloria ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent. Viloria looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights. Viloria looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Viloria jabs at Howe's body. Viloria tries for a takedown but Howe sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Viloria throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Viloria swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Howe moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Viloria misses with a wild combination.
Viloria throws a jab but it's blocked by Howe. Howe stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Howe wants it to stay on the feet. Leo Howe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brian Viloria. Viloria did well to prevent Howe getting side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Brian Viloria wasn't active enough on the ground. Howe has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him. Viloria cracks Howe with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage. Viloria fails with the takedown. Sloppy strikes from Viloria. Howe changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Viloria looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Viloria is not content to let Howe control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
