PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bruno Da Gaucho (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Abner Llorent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Da Gaucho!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Abner Llorent!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Llorent fails with the takedown

and Da Gaucho counters with a single leg into guard. Llorent didn't expect that.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Da Gaucho trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Llorent working for a triangle but Da Gaucho defends it easily.
Da Gaucho controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Da Gaucho trying to control the position from guard on top but Llorent is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Da Gaucho throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Llorent works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Llorent working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Da Gaucho doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Da Gaucho manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Da Gaucho is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

We're going to have a standup here because Bruno Da Gaucho wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Llorent gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Da Gaucho counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Da Gaucho stays in close to Llorent's body and controls the position.
Da Gaucho wants to pass the guard but Llorent is keeping the position.

Llorent has his foot on Da Gaucho's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Da Gaucho works his way back into a safe position though.
Llorent working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Da Gaucho.

Llorent had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Da Gaucho defends it easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Da Gaucho is pushing down on Llorent's leg trying to pass to half guard. Llorent is fighting to maintain full guard but Da Gaucho has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Da Gaucho seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Llorent is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:33 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Bruno Da Gaucho!
Bruno Da Gaucho retains his bantamweight title!
