PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Joel Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Doug Hanson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Joel Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Doug Hanson!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, William Gold and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hanson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Diaz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Diaz is looking for a sweep.
Diaz looks to move to half guard but instead Hanson has passed into mount! Damn!
Hanson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Diaz's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz avoids a series of strikes thrown by Hanson.
Diaz regains half guard.
Hanson wants to stand but Diaz has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hanson is thwarting Diaz's attempts to control the position.

Diaz actively working from the bottom here.
Hanson has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Diaz works to full guard.

Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Diaz bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hanson's guard.
Hanson not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Diaz tries to free his leg and advance position but Hanson is retaining full guard.
Hanson is looking to stand up but Diaz isn't so interested in that idea.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Hanson keeps moving.

Diaz postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Diaz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Joel Diaz wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Hanson misses with a body kick.
Diaz is trying hard to land a takedown here. Hanson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Diaz shoots in looking for a takedown but Hanson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Diaz's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hanson has taken the fight to the clinch.
Diaz tries to pull guard but Hanson holds him up against the cage and eventually Diaz drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Joel Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Hanson ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hanson no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Diaz throws a strike but Hanson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Diaz is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Diaz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Diaz wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Hanson is now in half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hanson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Diaz keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Doug Hanson will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Hanson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Diaz's guard.
Diaz pulls Hanson in close to prevent any damage.
Diaz manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Hanson manages to get himself to full guard.
Diaz tries to free his leg and advance position but Hanson is retaining full guard.
Hanson is looking to stand up but Diaz isn't so interested in that idea.

Diaz wants to control from the top but Hanson keeps moving.

Hanson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Diaz is one step ahead there.
Diaz passes Hanson's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Diaz is trying to control the action in half guard but Hanson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Diaz is trying to work for a kimura but Hanson is defending well.
Hanson is trying to maintain the position but Diaz is very close to passing his half guard.

Diaz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hanson sees it coming and defends easily.

Diaz is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Hanson doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Diaz.
Diaz wants to pass to mount but Hanson is defending the position.
Hanson is trying to stand back up but Diaz is controlling him
Hanson is pressing down on Diaz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Diaz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hanson looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hanson looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hanson!

Diaz tries to buck Hanson off but Hanson is having none of it.
The ground and pound from Hanson seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Joel Diaz overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Diaz wants to control but Hanson postures up.
Diaz manages to work his way to half guard, despite Hanson's best efforts.
Diaz tries to get to full guard but Hanson has control of the leg.
Hanson is trying to control the action in half guard but Diaz is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Diaz is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hanson pulls his head out easily.

Hanson seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Diaz does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Diaz is looking for a sweep. Hanson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Diaz here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Diaz tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Diaz works his way to full guard. Good work.
Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hanson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Diaz tries to roll over but Hanson keeps him under control.
Diaz is working hard here to advance position.
Diaz flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Diaz tries to get to full guard but Hanson has control of the leg.
Diaz is looking to control Hanson's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Diaz avoid being mounted?
Diaz is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Hanson's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Hanson's back!

Diaz has the hooks in. Hanson is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Diaz working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Hanson is doing well to defend. Diaz seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Hanson is forced to tap and this one is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Joel Diaz!
Joel Diaz decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
