Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Daquan Battle! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, David Sallas! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sallas. Daquan Battle seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Sallas tries to clinch but Battle moves out of range. Battle is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sallas. Sallas fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Battle. Sallas decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Sallas prevents Battle from standing back up.
Sallas blocks the strikes from Battle.
Sallas winds up and cracks Battle with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Battle makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work! Sallas is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Battle throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Sallas fails in his attempt to clinch. Sallas ducks under a wild hook from Battle. Sallas looks for a takedown but Battle sprawls well. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sallas. Daquan Battle has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Sallas. Sallas looks gassed! Battle tries for a takedown but Sallas circles away easily and Sallas counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Battle tries for a takedown but Sallas circles away easily and Sallas makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sallas closes the distance and clinches up with Battle, looking for a takedown. Sallas pushes Battle against the cage but Battle circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Battle explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Battle bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Sallas gets back to half guard. Sallas trying to control from the bottom.
Battle is keen to just control but Sallas is a slippery customer. Battle will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Sallas blocking the ground and pound attempt from Battle. Sallas is trying to stand back up but Battle is controlling him
Sallas tries to roll over but Battle keeps him under control. Sallas trying to control here.
Battle is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sallas is looking to control Battle's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Sallas avoid being mounted?
That's two minutes gone in the round. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Battle lands a nice short elbow.
Sallas is rocked! Well, if Battle is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Sallas is still in real trouble! Can Battle finish him? Battle scoring with strikes to the body and head. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Battle wants to work for an arm triangle but Sallas is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Battle looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sallas with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Battle decides to stand up. Battle cracks Sallas with a big right hand that sees him stumbling back against the cage! Sallas falls to his knees and Battle doesn't need a second invitatation - he rushes in and fires off several unanswered shots that force the referee to stop the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Daquan Battle!
