PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tj Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wendell Sailor (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sailor has chosen Blackalicious - It's Going Down as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tj Thomas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Wendell Sailor!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sailor takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Sailor darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Thomas throws a series of punches but Sailor avoids them all with ease.
Sailor throws the left hand but Thomas avoids the punch easily.
Sailor throws a lazy right hand but Thomas sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Sailor uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Thomas.
Sailor just misses with a punch to the body.
Sailor looks to score with a jab to the body but Thomas is just out of range.
Wendell Sailor seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Thomas gets a clinch.
Thomas scores with a shoulder strike.


It looks like Wendell Sailor has been cut.
Thomas wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sailor blocks the elbow strike.
Thomas struggles to land a body shot inside as Sailor controls his hands.
Sailor swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Thomas throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Sailor's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Thomas instigates a clinch.
Thomas really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Sailor lands a left hand that snaps the head of Thomas backwards.
We've been hearing reports that Thomas has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Thomas has a couple of punches blocked by Sailor.
Sailor throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Thomass head.
Sailor pushes Thomas back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.
Thomas is pushing Sailor up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Thomas looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Sailor blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
A head punch on the inside from Sailor fails to land.
Thomas softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Thomas throws a punch but it's blocked by Sailor.
Thomas tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Thomas is trying to force a seperation but Sailor has the dominant position.
Sailor digs a right hand underneath Thomas's ribcage. Thomas let out a lung full of air as it connected.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Thomas manages to break the clinch.
Thomas avoids the body shot from Sailor.
A looping hook to the body misses from Thomas. Sailor does a little dance to reset his feet.
Thomas scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Thomas tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Sailor manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Thomas tries to clinch up but Sailor circles away and keeps his distance.
Sailor connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Thomas's hands.

Thomas gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Thomas misses with the head strike.
Thomas trying to control the position but instead, Sailor has worked for underhooks and has pushed Thomas into the cage.
Thomas blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Thomas is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Sailor avoiding damage as Thomas throws knees to the body.
Thomas misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Sailor.
A nice left hand lands by Thomas.
Sailor looks to throw an elbow but misses.
Sailor lands with a light punch inside.
Thomas throws a head punch that misses.
Thomas wants to break the clinch but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Thomas tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Thomas is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Thomas swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Thomas throws a head punch that misses.

Thomas breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Sailor connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Sailor connects with a good right hand that stumbles Thomas. Thomas circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Sailor looks to land a left hand but Thomas moved out of range nicely.
A combination from Sailor does no damage.
Wendell Sailor is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Thomas scores with a nice right hand.
Sailor misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Thomas.
Thomas tries to close the distance and clinch but Sailor swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Sailor avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sailor missing with a left hand there. Thomas was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Thomas smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sailor misses with a hook.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sailor misses the body punch

and Thomas counters with a crisp right hand that drops Sailor! Thomas lets Sailor back up to his feet, looking for a finish!


Sailor is rocked!
Thomas on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
A big left from Thomas misses.
Sailor throws an overhand right that lands on Thomas's shoulder, as Thomas tries to avoid the shot.

Sailor is still on wobbly legs! Can Thomas finish him?


That has opened up Wendell Sailor's cut even more.
Thomas is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Thomas fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Thomas lands a huge takedown. Sailor is out but the ref is slow to react and Thomas lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Sailor lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Tj Thomas!
