PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Akira Katana (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirzu Hitoshi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hitoshi has chosen Boom Boom Satellites - Easy Action as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akira Katana!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mirzu Hitoshi!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Sano.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Katana pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Hitoshi gets the takedown into side control.
Katana prevents Hitoshi from improving position.

Hitoshi tries for a kimura but Katana is defending well.
Katana is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Katana is working hard here to advance position.

Hitoshi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Katana knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Hitoshi misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Katana is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Hitoshi off and has taken his back!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hitoshi wants to escape the position.

Katana looking for the choke from the back.
Hitoshi prevents Katana from getting a body triangle.
I really don't envy Hitoshi right now.

Katana controlling well, preventing Hitoshi from escaping the position.
A lull in the action here.
Hitoshi rolls, trying to escape but Katana keeps control of the position.
Hitoshi breaks Katana's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Katana looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hitoshi is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Hitoshi feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hitoshi is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hitoshi advances position into side control!
Katana can't do much from the bottom here.
Katana is breathing heavily.

Hitoshi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Katana is looking for a sweep.

Hitoshi has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Hitoshi wants to finish this one by submission but Katana is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hitoshi.

Hitoshi with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Hitoshi swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Katana is now in Hitoshi's guard. A big mistake from Hitoshi there, giving up the dominant position!
Katana is looking to stand up but Hitoshi won't let him.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Katana pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hitoshi is keeping the position for now.
Hitoshi looking for a sweep. Not yet Hitoshi, not yet.

Katana is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hitoshi looking for a guillotine here but Katana defends easily.
Hitoshi is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Hitoshi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mirzu Hitoshi dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Katana fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hitoshi sprawls well initially but Katana persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hitoshi looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Katana trying to control from Hitoshi's half guard. Hitoshi has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Katana stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hitoshi swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hitoshi has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Katana doesn't defend quickly enough and Hitoshi has managed to lock this one up! Can Katana escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Hitoshi on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:01 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mirzu Hitoshi!
