Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jeffrey Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Andrew Morgan! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hughes misses with a takedown attempt - Morgan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Morgan bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Hughes's head. Morgan connects with the punch.
It looks like Jeffrey Hughes has been cut. Hughes instigates a clinch. Morgan is trying to push Hughes away but Hughes has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Hughes misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Morgan is looking to break free of the clinch but Hughes has double underhooks. Morgan wants to get back to striking at distance but Hughes won't allow it.
Morgan breaks from the clinch.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. A lazy left from Morgan finds it's target. Morgan circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hughes instigates a clinch. Morgan breaks the clinch.
A telegraphed right hand from Hughes misses the target. Morgan swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hughes is defended easily by Morgan. The fight moves into the clinch position.
That's one minute gone in the round. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Hughes. A battle for position here, against the cage. Morgan looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Hughes has Morgan pressed against the cage, preventing Morgan from circling away and getting back to striking at range. A frustrated look appears on Morgan's face as he tries to break the clinch. Morgan has had enough of the clinch but Hughes keeps him there for the moment. Hughes keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Morgan's efforts to push away. Morgan can't break the clinch.
Hughes misses with the head strike.
Hughes tries a body shot but Morgan blocks it.
Morgan breaks the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hughes takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Morgan connects with a good right hand that stumbles Hughes. Hughes circles away out of range and recomposes himself. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Hughes throws a lazy uppercut
and Morgan counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Hughes is rocked! Morgan throws the left hand but Hughes avoids the punch easily. Oh Hughes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! Morgan keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Hughes. Morgan is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Morgan cracks Hughes with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Hughes looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Morgan finish him?
Jeffrey Hughes's cut is getting worse. Morgan closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Hughes! Morgan dives in looking to finish! Hughes is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andrew Morgan! Andrew Morgan seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
