Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
34 - 14 - 0, fighting out of London, Dean Stevens! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
34 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Flavio Sandoval! The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sandoval looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Sandoval cracks Stevens with a right hand to the side of the head. Sandoval pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Sandoval tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Sandoval misses with a low kick. Stevens throws a head kick but Sandoval moves out of range.
Stevens tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sandoval swivels and escapes. Stevens has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Sandoval. Sandoval tries a head kick but it misses.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sandoval.
Stevens throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean. Sandoval lands a leg kick and bounces back out of range. Sandoval throws a quick inside leg kick. Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Sandoval.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Sandoval shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Stevens with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Sandoval to score with a decent uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Stevens takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Stevens will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Sandoval avoids a kick to the body.
Stevens looks to throw the jab but Sandoval is out of range. Sandoval displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Stevens. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dean Stevens. That's going to take a lot out of him. Sandoval lunges at Stevens with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Stevens's hand. Stevens has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance. Sandoval bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Stevens's head. An inside leg kick from Stevens misses. Flavio Sandoval is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Sandoval lands a slapping body shot.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Stevens misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Stevens walks into a stiff left hand from Sandoval. Ohhhhhhhhhh, brutal head kick from Sandoval! This one is all over!
