Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Oswaldo Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mitsuyo Maeda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, In The Ghetto - By Elvis Presley. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
31 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Hilo, Oswaldo Sanchez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
19 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitsuyo Maeda! The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Glass and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Sanchez shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it. Nice jab there from Maeda. Maeda moves out of range of the body kick from Sanchez.
Sanchez clobbers Maeda with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Maeda bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. A nice inside leg kick there by Sanchez. That's going to slow Maeda down. Maeda drops his hands momentarily and Sanchez takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Maeda's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Sanchez connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Maeda scrambles back to his feet. Maeda thows a left - swing and a miss! Sanchez connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Maeda lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Sanchez checks the leg kick. Maeda waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Sanchez. A looping hook to the body misses from Sanchez. Maeda does a little dance to reset his feet. Sanchez connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Maeda bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Sanchez tries to bench press Maeda off him but Maeda keeps the position. Maeda tries to advance to mount but Sanchez denies him. Maeda working the head and body with strikes. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Maeda working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well. Maeda has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Maeda tries for a kimura but Sanchez is defending well. An elbow from Maeda crashes against the mat.
Sanchez is trying to improve his position. Maeda is looking to take a break and control but Sanchez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Sanchez can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sanchez is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Maeda off and has taken his back! Maeda wants to control his opponent's hands but Sanchez gets his hands free. Maeda is really stuck here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez lands strikes from half guard. Maeda tries to get to full guard but Sanchez has control of the leg. Maeda is still trying to improve position. Maeda keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. We've been hearing that Sanchez has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish. Sanchez drops an elbow to the side of Maeda's head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Maeda controlling the position well. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sanchez stalling away here and it's allowed Maeda to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard. Maeda managing to control the position. Maeda utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Sanchez wants to control from the top but Maeda keeps moving. Maeda lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Mitsuyo Maeda will probably get the nod. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Sanchez thumps Maeda with a low kick. Maeda walks forward, straight into a front kick from Sanchez. Maeda with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Sanchez moves out of range of the strikes. Maeda tried to score with a low kick but Sanchez checks it. Nice jab there from Maeda. Sanchez throws a jab but it's blocked by Maeda. Sanchez looks for the body kick but Maeda saw that one coming. Donk. Maeda catches Sanchez right on the button with a cross. Nice body kick from Sanchez. Sanchez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Maeda uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Sanchez. Oswaldo Sanchez is winning the standup battle so far. Maeda just misses with a punch to the body.

Sanchez throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Maeda on the side of the head. Sanchez on the wrong end of a nice jab. Sanchez looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Nice takedown defense from Sanchez. No joy for Maeda on that attempt. Sanchez scores with a slapping inside leg kick. Sanchez throws a leg kick but Maeda moved away. Oswaldo Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitsuyo Maeda. Sanchez scores with a push kick. Sanchez goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. A thudding body kick lands there by Maeda!

Sanchez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Sanchez showed some decent athleticism there. Maeda keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Sanchez is thwarting Maeda's attempts to control the position. Sanchez slips a nice elbow through Maeda's hands, connecting with Maeda's forehead. Sanchez lands with a punch from half guard. Maeda is doing well to control the position and prevent Sanchez from advancing to side control. Sanchez working the head and body with strikes.

Oswaldo Sanchez dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Good standup being displayed there by Sanchez as he connects with a hook. Maeda checks the leg kick. Maeda uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Sanchez.

Sanchez leaves Maeda with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Sanchez fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Maeda.

Maeda drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Sanchez is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Sanchez seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez has his hands on Maeda's head, controlling the position. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Oswaldo Sanchez. Maeda throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Good work by Sanchez as he checks the leg kick. Maeda throws out a token jab with nothing on it. Sanchez displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maeda. Oswaldo Sanchez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mitsuyo Maeda. Sanchez misses with a wild combination.

That was a close round but Oswaldo Sanchez did the better work so I'd imagine he'll take it. That's time! Back to the action!

Sanchez is trying to get back to full guard. Sanchez is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! He's hooked one of Maeda's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maeda's back! As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Maeda is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
Oswaldo Sanchez is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach. The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Sanchez's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
And that's the end of the fight! Mitsuyo Maeda comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Sanchez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
