PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mister Spock (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jameson Connemara (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Spock might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Rolling Stones- 2,000 Light Years From Home. Jameson Connemara told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 30 - 12 - 3, fighting out of Montreal, Mister Spock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jameson Connemara!
The judges for this bout are James Atkins, James Glass and Sam Margolis.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Connemara pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Connemara swings for the body but Spock moves out of range.
Connemara dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Spock checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time.
Connemara lands a front kick.
Spock works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Connemara swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Connemara throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Connemara avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Connemara swats away the attempt to clinch by Spock.

and Spock counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Connemara.

Connemara thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Spock if he has to take too many more of those.

Spock sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Spock tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Connemara was well out of range. Poor timing from Spock.
Jameson Connemara seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Connemara goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Connemara creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Connemara has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Spock seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Connemara can turn it around.

Connemara pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Spock's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Connemara connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Spock scrambles back to his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

I was talking to Spock's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Connemara is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Spock is keeping busy.

Connemara takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Connemara bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Spock's head.

Connemara connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Spock tries to close the distance and clinch up but Connemara swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Connemara uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Spock.
Connemara goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Connemara pounces like a tiger and cracks Spock with a vicious hook! Spock is down but not out! Connemara follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

During a confident post fight interview, Jameson Connemara thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
