Gomez kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Bad Motherfucker. Chael Sonnen has the better chin. The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gomez goes for a double leg but Sonnen avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Sonnen continues to drive forward.
Sonnen can't get the takedown.
Sonnen is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Gomez gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Gomez stops a takedown attempt from Sonnen.
Franco Gomez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chael Sonnen.

Sonnen gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Gomez is staying active underneath Sonnen, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gomez wants to improve his position but Sonnen is controlling well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sonnen connects with a nice short shot to Gomez's temple.
Gomez is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Sonnen's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Sonnen's back!

Gomez is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Sonnen is defending well though. Gomez let's go of the attempt for now.

Gomez has got his arm under Sonnen's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Sonnen has spun round into Gomez's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Oh but Gomez is tightening it up a little... Sonnen has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight!
